LiverBetterLife is a pilot project aimed at increasing the uptake of hepatitis C treatment in rural and regional communities.
Since the listing of new, highly effective hepatitis C treatments on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in March 2016, 15 per cent of Australians with hepatitis C have been treated in the nine months to December 2016, compared with less than 2 per cent the year before.
Despite this, the uptake of hepatitis C treatment in rural and regional communities remains lower than the national average.
LiverBetterLife is an initiative funded by Hepatitis Australia and managed by Hepatitis SA.
Lessons from this project may be applied to similar projects in other rural and regional areas across Australia.
